annual exams/well woman care

GeorgAnna is an Out Of Network Provider for most insurance companies and therefore charges a nominal fee of $50 for those whose insurance does not cover these services for well woman care to make access to quality care affordable to all women, of any age. Barter/trades are welcome. Georgia also has a program to cover contraception for women up to a year postpartum, so if your insurance doesn't cover these services you may want to check with Peach Care

Birth control/family planning

All the options below are options for birth control or family planning offered at Savannah Midwifery.  Here is a great link to an explanation of various options.

Some options are:

IUDs

  • Most effective birth control option other than tubal ligation, immediately reversible (you can remove the IUD and become pregnant again).
  • Paragard copper IUD - non hormonal, compatible with breastfeeding, effective for up to 10 years yet immediately reversible (just take it out). Can be inserted immediately after you give birth and immediately effective.
  • Mirena IUD - has hormones, effective for up to 5 years. Intended for those who have given birth before.
  • Skyla IUD - smaller version of the Mirena, effective for up to 3 years, ideal for those who have not given birth before.

Hormonal options (more effective than hormone free):

  • Mirena IUD - has hormones, effective for up to 5 years. Intended for those who have given birth before.
  • Skyla IUD - smaller version of the Mirena, effective for up to 3 years, ideal for those who have not given birth before.
  • Birth control pills (combined hormonal methods are not compatible with breastfeeding, although progestin only pills are fine while nursing)
  • Nuva-Ring  hormonal method that is easy to use, but not compatible with breastfeeding.

Hormone-free options:

  • Paragard copper IUD - non hormonal, compatible with breastfeeding, effective for up to 10 years yet immediately reversible (just take it out). Can be inserted immediately after you give birth and immediately effective.
  • Diaphragms, spermicides, cervical caps, and condoms (male and female condoms are available)  are barrier methods.
  • Natural family planning, fertility awareness, rhythm method, sympto-thermal method, and the two day method are other hormone-free options (details below).

fertility awareness (there are some great apps for this)
